ARIZONA CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN CONCRETE INSTITUTE "EXPOSES THE BEST IN CONCRETE"

The Arizona Chapter of the American Concrete Institute honored award winning projects during a special awards banquet held, Friday, November 9, 2007 at the Wyndham Phoenix. The program honored eight projects in eight different categories: Architectural Merit, Commercial Application - Architectural Flooring or Hardscape, Residential Application - Architectural Flooring or Hardscape, Structural Design Innovation, Mid to High Rise, Infrastructure/Transportation, Unusual Use of Concrete, and Sustainable Concrete Construction.

Overall judging criteria included design, workmanship, creativity, functionality, technical innovation, economy and problem solving. The Arizona Chapter - ACI recognized the professionalism and expertise of the individual jurors.

The next Chapter Awards will be announced April 17th, 2009, and entries are being accepted through November 7th, 2008. Click here for more information.

The awarded projects were selected by a Southern California panel of jurors. AZ Chapter-ACI was proud to announce this year's Chairman of the distinguished panel: Thomas D. Verti, a 35-year veteran in the field of concrete construction, President of Charles Pankow Builders, Ltd., Pasadena, CA, an industry leader in design-build project deliver and a major innovator of concrete construction methodologies.

The remaining jurors were: Dan Slater, Vice President - Smith-Emery Company, Renate Kofahl, APR, Director of Marketing - Charles Pankow Builders, Ltd., Brian A. Serra, and Vice President/General Manager- Standard Concrete Products, Inc., and Steve Nicholson, Project Manager - John Laing Homes.

The awards banquet was sponsored by the Arizona Chapter of the American Concrete Institute. The Arizona Chapter and its members have played a significant role in economic development, new product and construction standards, enhanced safety policies and increased energy efficiency of concrete products. It has also been on the forefront of developing and implementing statewide educational seminars for the professional community and programs with Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University and the University of Arizona.
